Trainee Profiles

David Evison - Trainee Solicitor

Having spent some time in the workplace following a degree in Politics, I decided upon a career in the law, studying the Graduate Diploma in Law and the LPC at the University of Birmingham and College of Law respectively. I chose the firm because of the variety of work it undertakes enabling me to gain a breadth of experience across a range pf specialist areas. The ability of the firm to reconcile the ethos of the firm, with its position as market leaders in several sectors and a commitment to growth in many other legal markets, also provided me with motivation to join. Along with all trainees, I play an active role in fundraising for charities and forms part of the trainee best practice team helping to develop the firm’s training contracts, so that they provide the best for both trainee and the firm.

As a trainee, I feels like I am a settled and valued member of the firm. From an early stage I have had conduct of my own files and this shows both trust in me and a recognition of the requirements of a trainee. The help and support offered at all levels, allows trainees to be comfortable and confident with the responsibilities they are given.

Cynyr Rhys - Trainee Solicitor

I graduated from Aberystwyth University in 2008 with a degree in law and subsequently moved to Chester after graduating to start my LPC at the College of Law. During my LPC I secured my training contract with Anthony Collins Solicitors and later moved to the Midlands in the summer of 2009. I am currently in my second seat in our Commercial Dispute, Licensing and Regulatory Department specialising in Property Litigation. Prior to this I spent 6 months working within our Construction Department specialising in Construction Contracts and EU Procurement. Both departments have given me a great introduction to the firm and its unique ethos whilst providing me with a breadth of client contact and interesting legal work.

Working for Anthony Collins has opened the door to many exciting opportunities during my short time in the Midlands. Trainees at ACS are very active in raising money for the chosen ‘Trainee Charity’ and partake in numerous local events such as the Midland Legal Walk held annually in Birmingham. We are also encouraged to become involved in the wider legal and business community in Birmingham and attend events held by organisations such as Birmingham Future and the Birmingham Trainee Solicitors Society. I am involved with the Birmingham Trainee Solicitor Society on a day to day basis since my appointment as a Director of the company and have responsibility over all financial aspects of the society as Treasurer.
